Do you know a good home brew recipe (beer)?

posted on November 10, 2009 in how to brew beer

Looking for a nice recipe for home brewed beer (not the supermarket kits, after 20something batches of that we’re kinda over it). Something that tastes a bit like Cascade (premium, with a citrussy hint). We’ve got the 23ltr plastic drum set-up. Thanks :-)

Go to your local do-it-yourself brewery… They have hundreds of variations that you can brew at home…

How would I go about getting a permit for selling the beer I brew?

  1. It’s doable but it gets kind of involved, in that you need equipment and a safe, convenient place to put it and check up on everything. Here’s just one walk through I was able to find in a hurry.

Using sugar tends to speed things up a bit, but ideally with trial and error you should eventually be able to follow the "Reinheitsgebot" rule using only water, hops, malt, and yeast. Good luck!

  2. The recipe isn’t that important. It is the procedure that matters. Get a good book on the subject and study it. I have about 15 books on the subject and have read several more than once and one at least 4 times. Believe it or not I keep learning every time I read one. Dave Miller’s Hombrewing guide is the best and the one I read 4 times not counting the times I used it as a guide while brewing. Charlie Papazian is a good author also but I do not think that he is as informative as Dave is. The time you spend with these books will be very rewarding. It will save you much grief in the future.

  3. Nothing wronmg with extract kits – there are several different styles and they make a good beer as long as you use malt extract instead of corn sugar.
