How to install wii home-brew and play dvds without using Twilight Princess?

posted on December 27, 2009 in home brew

I found a way to install home-brew without using Twilight Princess game (I don’t have the game, don’t want the game, and don’t have money for the game). Now i want to find a method to install Mplayer (i think that’s what it’s called) WITHOUT using Twilight Princess.

Thank You

Use bannerbomb (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Bannerbomb) to launch the hackmii installer (http://bootmii.org/download) To install the homebrew channel (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Channel) and DVDX (required if you want to watch movies dvds)

After you install homebrew channel, just make a folder called "Apps" on the root (page you get when you click the sd card in my computer) of the sd card (if the homebrew channel doesn’t make one for you.

then go into the apps folder and copy the folder with your homebrew .dol, png, and meta.xml in it to the apps folder.

How much home brew would you let your spouse make before you would think it is "too much"?

posted on December 22, 2009 in home brew

My hobby is spiraling upward, I now have about 50 gallons of home made fruit wines and beer in process, either fermenting in buckets in the bathroom, or aging in 5-gallon bottles in the basement. My wife hasn’t said anything yet, but I’m wondering when my cute hobby will become "too much" for her.

How much father would you let it go?

Don’t know if there can ever be too much. My husband was also a home brewer. This stuff needs to age so it’s pretty normal to have a lot brew ‘working’ at one time. We also grow our own hops. Sounds really interesting ! What kinds of fruit wines do you make ? Do you have any meade ?

I’m going to home brew for the first time with my Mr Beer kit for dummies?

posted on December 16, 2009 in home brew

i plan on following all the directions and leaving nothing to chance however any tips and tricks from experienced home brewers welcomed !

I started brewing over 2 years ago with a Mr. Beer beer kit. luckily enough, things all turned out well, and now i’m an avid brewer that has moved on to all grain brewing in much larger batches.

As long as you boil and sanitize everything nicely, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. If you get good results and enjoy microbrewing, I recommend upgrading to a 5 gallon set up and ordering ingredient kits from a local brew supplie shop or any major supplier like Midwest brewing. This will save you more money than brewing with the Mr. Beer kits and make even better beer.

The main thing is, keep everything SANITIZED. If this is a hobby you enjoy, I suggest buying or checking out some books from the library (if they have them) on brewing beer. Proper knowledge will only improve upon your hobby and beer experience.

Can dry ice be used to carbonate home brew?

posted on December 14, 2009 in home brew

I am working on a home beer and in the past we used the sugar water method of carbonateing but i am wondering if it is safe/ possible to use dry ice to carbonate it faster?

yes, but there’s a reason that commercial breweries don’t do this

it is very hard to control the level of carbonation using this method, and you could end up with bottle bombs

just stick with the bottle conditioning, your beer needs a few weeks to peak anyway

is it harmfull to drink home brew too early?

posted on December 8, 2009 in home brew

was just wondering was is the earliest u can drink home brew or if it will make u ill if u drink it a week or so after making it?

It will taste a bit unpleasant and will still carry a lot of b vitamin from the yeast. Also It may not have reached full alcoholic strength.

It might give you the runs a bit. It’s a bit desperate to drink this so soon though, don’t you think?

I have a Lakeview Valley farms home brew kit. Does anyone know where I can get directions I cannot find mine. Thanks

If you contact any of your local "brew at home" stores they should be able to help you with general directions. You can also try their website?

What is the absolute best home brew website for the Datel Games’n'music card on the Nintendo DS?

Most Home Brew websites I go to download from make my ds freeze and say I need the flash cart. Other’s don’t. I own a DS Lite, and I want to know exactly wherre to go to get some stuff for it. I DO like links… :)

I recommend getting stuff from the source:

http://www.gbadev.org

Look at their forums, in the DS Homebrew Announcements section, you’ll find numerous programs with links to download. You don’t have to register to download, but you can register and post comments about programs. Most programs require patching with DLDI. DLDI is a type of driver that allows homebrew to read files off of the microSD card. You need to use a patching software (like DLDIrc) to apply the patch to the homebrew .nds file, then it will work. Find out about DLDI at:

http://dldi.drunkencoders.com

Finally, I have a YouTube page where I post many videos with screencasts/tutorials of installing stuff on the Games n’ Music, including DLDI, DLDIrc, and popular apps like MoonShell:

With my first home brew kit I got a small packet of finings (beer clearing agent)?

posted on November 29, 2009 in home brew

When is the best time to add these to the brew?

You can put the fining in after the primary fermentation (when you transfer the beer to a secondary fermenter/carboy for aging).

-OR-

Adding Irish Moss at the end of the boil (last 5 minutes or so) will also help clear the beer.

-OR-

Cold conditioning for a week will clear beer with or without the use of finings. If you do any kegging, this is a good way to go.

What is the best home brew kit i can buy?

posted on November 26, 2009 in home brew

My bf has always wanted to brew his own beer so I want to buy him a complete home brew kit for christmas and i want to know which is the best to buy? Also, what are the best types and brands of ingredients to buy? He really enjoys IPA’s Amber’s and stouts. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

the best "kit" would likely be something like Midwest Supply’s MASTER kit, but its also $320

you can easily get away with an intermediate kit at about $90 to start with though, and upgrade later on.

you then get a recipe kit, that comes with the malt, yeast & hops… which are around $25

finally you get bottles, which you will need about 50 12 oz bottles, or less of the larger, about $50

so in total to start with:

$90-320
$25
$50
=======
between: $165 and $395

this isn’t even including shipping
you likely can save a lot by purchasing locally
they also know what essentials you will need… just go to google maps, and type "home brewing" and your city

Is there a home-brew way to freeze plumbing pipes?

posted on November 24, 2009 in home brew

I know you can buy kits to freeze your pipes to avoid draining down when you change a radiator valve or similar, but is there a home made way of doing it?
Yes I can get a kit in my local store, but I’m curious to know if there is another way.

Packing in dry ice would freeze something with in 30 seconds, but, I would worry that it may ‘BURST’ your pipes as the expansion is not able to be absorbed by the metal, straining it to a point of expansion from the ice and cracking, (let alone what the dry ice does to metal anyways, it weakens its structure, as it becomes brittle).

I would go through the problem of draining the system. Its not hard to "chage" it up again, as in a radiator, by simply bleeding the air out…

I wish you well..
