What is the easiest (and cheapest) way to home-brew beer?

posted on Announcement in home brew

I’m looking to start a small scale home-brewery and don’t really feel like following the generic "Brew It At Home" kits. Looking for some originality. Any tips or hints (possibly a step by step process) would be awesome. Thanks.

After buying the Mr. Beer kit and brewing 2-3 batches (and ruining 1) I bought a couple of books, Home Brewing for Dummies, and another book whose name escapes my memory. Both good sources with references to other books and websites. My advice would be to go to your local bookstore (the bigger the better) and find/ask for the home brewing section and start reading, you will be amazed at the initial cash outlay just to get started with a small, basic home brewing set-up, so research it first, before you buy.

Why brew beer or make wine when they can be purchased at reasonable prices?

posted on October 25, 2009 in how to brew beer

I brew and love it. I am just getting a general consensus from you brewers and non-brewers and winemakers.
Satisfaction is indeed a major reason.

While taste is subjective I agree that we/one can pinpoint the flavors they enjot most and try to reproduce them in their home-brew.
Not so cheap anymore the ingredients are becoming so expensive. Nontheless, it is well worth it.
Thanks guys…gals.
Spelling correction, enjoy. : )
Control. A good point.

So you know exactly what is going into the beer and wine that you’re drinking, perhaps no preservatives or chemicals.

looking for facility where I can brew beer – In San Francisci Peninsula?

posted on October 20, 2009 in how to brew beer

I want to brew beer as a gift for a friends wedding. I have heard that there are facilities where you can go to do this. Pay for supplies and use of equipment on site.
How o I find such a place

I’ve never heard of such a facility. I live in San Jose, and the last I checked, the only store that sold beer making ingredients had gone out of business. You could go to Yahoo! Yellow Pages, and set the location for the city where you live. Then do a search on "beer making". But those companies close up shop in a hurry. There isn’t much demand, since you don’t save that much money and it is a LOT of work.

I have talked to a few people that have bought the beer making kits, and speak of good results. The kits are fairly cheap and would probably cost the same as or less than renting facilities/equipment. This site is probably the best for buying kits. I also sent them an email asking them about companies that rent facilities/equipment. When (if?) I get an answer, I’ll get back to you.

I got a response to the question I asked of homebrewers. Here it is.

Hello,
I’ve heard of brew-on-premise and wine-on-premise businesses, but not of a store
dedicated to renting equipment.

Is it possible to brew beer with Blue Corn?

posted on October 19, 2009 in how to brew beer

I was wondering if it’s at all possible, if anyone’s tried it and what the results were. Did you end up with a tasty blue beer?
I don’t mean to use the corn as the base just stictly as an adjunct.

Corn is used to make beer, usually in addition to malted barley. Here is a recipe:

Does anyone know of home brew shops in bangalore? where they sell products like yeast etc required for bakeries. I need to buy maltodextrin powder.

Most of the condiment stores in Bangalore would have products like yeast. If not try BVK Iyengar road. You will surely get the stuff there.

I want to brew some beer next semester in college. I really like the taste of Coor’s Light, Rolling Rock, Bud Light, ect. but want a cheaper way to consume the brewshky. Any one have any ideas on setting up a mini brewery in the facility of a apartment building? Also I don’t know what materials to get, looking to buy cheap stuff as possible.

Are you 21 .. dude you can’t even spell some of these names. Pretty pathetic IMO.
